The awareness around the products we use on our skin has increased the availability of new cosmetics on the market. But do they all follow Clean Beauty's recommendations?

In the previous post about what Clean Beauty is and what are the differences between natural, organic, green and clean cosmetics, we also mentioned the importance of reading the list of ingredients and paying attention to some products that may be present, even when a brand has an indication of 'Natural'. But what ingredients are these?
Ingredients that should be avoided
Parabens - are preservatives that are used to prolong the life of cosmetics and other products, but studies confirm that these can cause skin irritation and allergies, and can also affect our endocrine system, causing thyroid disorders, obesity, and even cancer.
Fragrances - synthetic fragrances are related to headaches and migraines. This term is also used in some products to hide toxic ingredients.

Formaldehyde - is known as a carcinogen and can cause side effects such as sore throat, nosebleeds, itchy eyes, skin allergies, and immune system inhibition.
Phthalates - are used as plasticizers and solvents, being present in several products. They are linked to hormonal dysregulation increasing the risk of breast cancer.
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) - responsible for foaming and removing oiliness, they are found in more than 90% of beauty and cleaning products, but they cause irritation to the eyes and skin, and when combined with other chemicals they can lead to respiratory damage.
Did you find it interesting and want to start making this transition to Clean Beauty?
Start with the products you use daily that stay in contact with your skin longer (for example, sunscreen or moisturizer). And make these changes little by little, always remembering to check the ingredients list.
Give preference to products that do not have fragrances and those that are produced by local producers (as they normally do not use any toxic ingredients). Look for brands you like or venture out making your own beauty products at home - there are several super easy home recipes that use ingredients you can find in your kitchen!
And the benefits of this concept are diverse:
Decreases the risk of skin irritation and sensitivity
Decreases the risk of cancer
Decreases the risk of hormonal dysfunction
Improves your immunity
Improves your overall health and well-being
Help the environment
Nourishes your skin and your body
This movement is here to stay, making us have a better, more aware and healthier planet. That's why it's very important to find out and do our part with smarter choices!
